The best thing Google came out with is the Google Apps option for your domain. Google Apps includes a host of features including the option to have Google host your domain and email along with Gtalk, calendars, docs, and more. Those who use Google Calendar (whether Google Apps or Gmail) as well as iCal have been trying to find the best integration between the two, so that what is updated on Google Calendar can be updated on iCal and vice versa. Also, such an integration is coveted by those who are trying to integrate everything on their Mac without having to login through a web browser to check email, update calendars, or update contacts while at home.
The best solution I found is with a small app called Calaboration. When you call up the application it will ask you for your email and password to your Google Apps or Gmail account. When you sign in, all of the calendars from your account will appear. Then, you will need to select all the calendars you want to integrate and then click the “Add to iCal” button located at the bottom right of the Calaboration window. And voila, we have integration. When you add an item to your iCal, you will immediately see a spinning wheel indicating that your Google Calendar is being updated. Also, if you add an item to your Google calendar, your iCal will update when you launch the application. When you are away from your Mac, you can still have access to your iCal without having to update two separate calendars. So now, the two have become one.
