Backup Your Cell Phone

Hardware, iPod - December 12th, 2007

cell.jpgIn late October, I went on a business trip to good ‘ol Texas. My first day in Texas, I lost my cell phone. I was devastated, for I had never, ever lost a cell phone. Also, I realized that I could not call anyone because I did not know anyone’s number. Before I purchased my Macbook, I purchased the iPod Classic with 80gb a month earlier. For me, it was only good for music. Yes, it has a lot of other cool features, but I was sure that they were no good to me. It wasn’t until I purchased my Mac that I was proven wrong.

I used my address book on my Mac to enter in people’s addresses, phone numbers, email, and etc. One day I plugged in my iPod in order to sync it with iTunes. To my amazement, I realized that my contacts were on my iPod. Mind you, I was considering buying an electronic address book, so that I could always have contact info on me in case I lost my cell phone again. Now, I have a greater appreciation for my iPod.

Now, you may ask, what if you lose both your cell phone and your iPod? Ha, you thought you had me, but I have an answer for you. I use Google Apps for one of my domains and what I did was download my contacts from my address book using the Address book to CSV importer, and then uploaded the file to my address book on my Google Apps. So, if I did lose both my cell phone and my iPod, I could log into my Google Apps email and retrieve info when and if I needed it. Furthermore, I would still have my Macbook if all else fails. I don’t plan on losing my Mac for any reason because it will always be glued to me.
