My Mac Addiction and the Remedy for Cutting Back

Productivity - December 15th, 2008

moleskineplannerpda My Mac Addiction and the Remedy for Cutting BackOver the past few months, I realized something that crept up on me out of the blue. I’ve been spending more time on my Macbook/Macbook Pro than usual. If I was getting things done then that would be great, but instead, I’ve been spending an insane amount of time doing absolutely nothing. I promised myself that I would cut back when I bought a Macbook Pro.

Is it easy? Of course not. But it is something that I must do, and I have taken the necessary steps in order to decrease the time spent on my Mac. First, I have declared no Macbook Pro free zones. One of those zones is my bed. I cannot tell you how many times I have spent all day in bed with my Mac. Well, not anymore. Other zones are the kitchen, the bathroom, and the TV room unless I am blogging about a TV series that I am watching.

Second, I have decided to use paper and pen to write down my blog posts as well as ideas and tasks. Then what I will do is transpose them to my Mac for editing and posting. This post you are reading is the first to be written in my GTD notebook. I’ve decided to go this route because if I am trying to write a post or ideas on my Mac, I will have the tendency to multitask (which is another topic I am thinking of writing on) and not actually finish anything or become distracted from finishing a task quicker.

So, this is what I’ve started, and I hope to stick with it. Now, I would love to hear input from all of my readers. Are you in the same situation? What steps have you taken to keep your addiction at bay?
